A portfolio works as a developer’s personal website by showing all or his or her work. As a simple website, it can tell potential employers so many things about a developer or candidate.
Be sure that when employers see a portfolio link in your resume, they click before reading the rest. Why?
The portfolio shows them:
-
-
- Workflow process.
- Programming languages you have proficiency in.
- How you acquired your technical expertise.
- Companies you have worked with.
- Quantifiable results you have achieved for your clients.
- Leadership experience.
- Communication skills.
- Documentation habits.
- Overall project management.
-
A personal web page serves as the most common form of a web developer’s portfolio. If you have a lot of work on GitHub, GitHub Pages provides an easy way to turn your repositories into a website that can serve as your portfolio. An online portfolio page lets you customize it to reflect your unique talents and interests. Also, you can inject a shot of personality – but always remain professional.
Some tips:
-
-
-
- Simply using your first and last name in the URL serves as a professional way to build your personal brand. Your domain name works as your personal name for your portfolio.
- You don’t need to share every project you have ever completed: in fact, don’t. Select a sampling of three to five projects that best represent your skill level and the depth of your experience.
- When providing links to source code, follow Folder Structure Conventions. This lets clients follow your project easily and will demonstrate your organizational skills, which potential employers’ value highly.

- Use common code maintained as open source to create a product or service that produces revenue.
- Show that you can work with a team to build a quality product (employers want to see your team work skills in your open source projects)
- Learn to build better and faster software in very short time.Â

The Open source data science projects:
